Waxing and Hair Removal Dos and Don’ts

  • Posted on October 9, 2013 at 10:51 AM

There is a myriad of ways in which to remove unwanted hair, and all of them vary in effectiveness, longevity, and painfulness. Most women prefer to shave away unwanted hair, as it is the quickest way to get smooth and hair-free skin. For many women with minimal hair growth and light-colored body hair, shaving is satisfactory and worth the time taken. For women with thick, dark body hair, shaving can be frustrating. Not only does it take time out of their day every day, but it does not leave their legs and underarms entirely smooth. Women in this situation may find that waxing is the most efficient method of hair removal in Houston, and the following article outlines some dos and don’ts of waxing to help you achieve the quickest and best results possible.

The Dos and Don’ts of Waxing

Waxing can be a very efficient way to remove unwanted body hair, and the results can last up to six weeks in the best cases. There are a few downsides, as the process can be quite painful. Luckily there are several things you can do to maximize your results from waxing as well as reduce pain. The following list outlines some dos and don’ts for waxing unwanted body hair to help you achieve the quickest and best results possible.

  • Don’t wax when your hair is short: While it may be inconvenient and even a little unpleasant, your body hair needs to be as long as possible in order to get the best results. In the case of waxing, the longer the hair, the better. If you have fairly thin body hair you will need the hair to be at least 1/4 of an inch in order to be effective. If your body hair is thicker, it will need to be longer.
  • Do warm up the wax before using it: There are several waxing products on the market that come in ready-made strips that already have the wax applied. In this case it is not necessary to heat the wax up in a warmer (which is a plus since it is less messy this way), however, you still need to heat up the stiffened wax and make it pliable by rubbing the strip in your hand to cause friction before applying it to your skin. The warmer the wax, the more pliable it will be and the better it will attach itself to your hair.
  • Don’t pull the strip away in the wrong direction: It is very important that you pull the wax strip against the grain, meaning that you should pull the wax strip in the opposite direction of hair growth. This will maximize the amount of hair that is removed as well as minimize the pull on your skin.
  • Do place your hand upon the area immediately after waxing: This slight pressure will minimize the pain you feel and will calm your skin.
  • Do shave your legs after waxing: Upon initial examination, you may be disappointed to still see a lot of hair on your legs. Much of this hair has been loosened by the wax, but still remains in your pores. Shaving your legs after waxing will pull this loose hair out completely.
  • Do exfoliate after waxing: Gentle exfoliation will help to remove any dead skin from your pores and will greatly minimize skin irritation and ingrown hairs, which are quite common after performing all types of hair removal in Houston. Avoid using any moisturizers or thick products, as they will clog up your pores and make the situation much worse.

The Importance of Happy Hour at Your Local Foot Spa

  • Posted on October 9, 2013 at 5:11 AM

Massage therapy is an amazing art that brings peace and healing to the body, mind, and soul. Through proper massage technique, therapists can help bodies relax, release and expel toxins, and increase circulation. If you have chronic pain, injuries, tension, or have never had a massage before, consider setting an appointment with a reputable massage center like Happy Hour Foot Spa.

The Most Useful Massages

When it comes to massage, few areas of the body are as important or as influential as the feet. While everyone loves a good foot rub, there is much more to your feet than you probably thought. Based in Eastern medicine, foot zoning and foot reflexology not only feel good on your feet but can correct ailments in other parts of your body as well.

What to Expect

According to the theory behind foot zoning, the feet are full of nerve endings that, when stimulated, signal the brain to affect change in a certain part of the body. Foot zoning can affect bones, muscles, organs, and even entire systems when done properly. The basic idea is that the brain can tell cells to begin regenerating from their current, unnatural, state to their natural and healthy state. When you go in for foot zoning, you can expect the environment to be quiet and peaceful. Your therapist will discuss your needs and what you want to accomplish from the foot zoning and then begin working on you. Foot zoning relies on a pattern of strokes along all areas of the feet. Sometimes your therapist will work down one side and up another. The direction in which your therapist works is determined by the natural flow of blood and lymph in the body. During your session, you may or may not feel pain, depending on how open your feet are. Feet which are experiencing closed signals will hurt more than feet which are open. Chances are there will be certain areas of your feet that will hurt and others that will not. No matter what you experience during the foot zone, you can count on feeling relaxed and balanced after it is over.

The Art of Foot Reflexology

Foot reflexology is based on ancient Chinese medicine that believes there are acupressure points located throughout the feet that, when activated, cause reflexive movement in corresponding parts of the body. According to Chinese thought, there are three ways in which foot reflexology can create health and balance in the body: blood circulation, nerve and humoral regulation, and channel and collateral regulation. Blood circulation is something with which most people are familiar. Reflexology assumes that toxins get trapped in the feet, causing the circulation to slow down and the brain, muscles, and organs to become malnourished. By practicing reflexology, the toxin deposits are broken up and moved to the waste system while the speed and efficiency of circulation increases.

Connection and Communication

When it comes to regulating your nerve and humoral systems, reflexology works by decreasing disease-induced inflammation in various parts of the body. If a certain area of the body is experiencing problems, the corresponding area of the feet usually have problems as well. By having that area of the foot massaged, the body will decrease the amount of inflammation to the other body part and increased circulation will clean out the pathogens that were causing the problem. Channel regulation refers to the fact that your body has many interconnecting channels which can become blocked. Reflexology unblocks those channels and allows your body to properly communicate with itself. For more information on how reflexology can help you, consult with professional therapists like those found at Happy Hour Foot Spa.

Find a Career Worth Working

You’ve been considering getting your cosmetology degree for a while. The minimum wage jobs in Bowling Green don’t pay nearly enough to be able to support yourself in any real capacity. Why not do something about it and go after your dream? Bowling Green has beauty schools that can be the way towards a better life; all you have to do is start looking.

Minimum Wage Blues

If you’re one of the millions of Americans making minimum wage, that means that you make $7.25 an hour. Working full time won’t even bring you in the money you need to get by, especially once the US government and Uncle Sam take their piece of the pie. It can be fun to be the broke young adult, eating Top Ramen for dinner and sharing an apartment with six other women, but that lifestyle is going to get old fast. And right now with current changes to the health insurance requirements, more and more employers will be cutting their full time employees and only offering part time hours. You want a job that will secure your future; a 401K and health insurance would be nice too.

Beauty Skills

Even as a young girl, you were always braiding your friends’ hair and getting chastised for raiding your mother’s makeup bag. You get complimented always on your beautiful manicure or latest hairstyle. You are the go-to friend for eyebrow waxing, because you actually know what you’re doing and don’t mess up. You’ve enjoyed these fun, pampering activities since you can remember; maybe you should go ahead and make it what you do for a living? When you love what you do for a living, then work hardly ever feels like work.

Career in Paradise

The career possibilities that would be available with a cosmetology degree are much more exciting than you dreamed of. The Bowling Green beauty schools can help you find employment in local salons, but if you have a zest for adventure, you could be jet-setting across the globe. High-end resorts and spas all over the world: Fiji, Hawaii, Paris, and Thailand could be yours to explore. The pay at these exotic locations is much better than what you’ll find in Bowling Green, too. What could be better than working in paradise? These companies often help with room and board or else offer a stipend for you to cover your expenses. If this is something that appeals to you, go ahead and look into it. If it’s something you want to do, then don’t let yourself be talked out of it.

Root Canals and When You Might Need One from Your Dentist

A toothache can make it hard to chew and talk, and creates a miserable situation in general. A toothache can be caused by cavities, inflammation, or infection. But what happens when the inflammation and infection are inside of the tooth? In this case, your Greenwood dentist will most likely perform a root canal. What Is a Root Canal? A root canal is an endodontic treatment, which means it treats the inside of the tooth. Your tooth is constructed of layers, the white outside being enamel, then a hard layer called dentin, and the soft inside, or pulp.
